Eleanor started her virtual life on August 31, 2006 as Opal Lei. In the following years, she learned the different aspects of content creation, including scripting, prim torture, terraforming, clothing/texture creation, sculpting, animations, machinima. She delved into various industries, including product creation, fashion, visual arts, music, non-profits. Her diverse experience ranges from content creation, to building micro-businesses, to marketing, to fundraising strategy and management, to fashion styling, to teaching, to virtual photography and filming.
A self-professed "full-time resident" of Second Life, she also spends her leisure time inworld, observing firsthand the differences between real world social interactions and virtual world social interactions. And, in May 2012, she published a book "Love, Like Dim Sum - Real World Lessons Learned and Relearned in a Virtual World". She owns several accounts or alts, which she thinks of as the proverbial hats that she wears as she switches from one role to another. Eleanor holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a Master's in Business Administration. Prior to discovering Second Life, she worked in various technical positions in major software companies for fourteen years. Her CV can be found here. |

Treasure Box
virtual world persona
Second Life rez date: January 12, 2007 |
Treasure Box was specifically created to be a link between real life and virtual life. Whereas Opal was mostly anonymous for more than four years, Treasure has always been associated with Eleanor's real world identity, and was focused on bridging the real life business world with the virtual business world.
Treasure helped MentorNet create a presence in Second Life. MentorNet is a non-profit organization that matches students in technical majors with professionals in the technical fields for a year-long mentorship. In 2007, 2008, and 2009, Treasure worked as the master scripter for the temple burn of Burning Life, the virtual equivalent of Burning Man, an annual gathering of artists in a Nevada desert. Treasure maintains a gallery (SkyWheels Galleria) which displays some of her real-world photography. She also has a few gadgets and a 3D Tic-Tac-Toe game for sale under the brand "By Treasure Box". Treasure blogs her observations of virtual world businesses here. |
